The 5 Days Marangu Route is a classic Kilimanjaro climb, ideal for beginners and travelers seeking comfort on Africa’s highest mountain. Known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” this path provides hut accommodation instead of camping, making it easier for climbers to rest and enjoy the journey.
This itinerary allows hikers to experience the rainforest, moorland, and alpine desert zones while maintaining a steady ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). The shorter duration makes it perfect for travelers with limited time, while still offering a high summit success rate.

5 Days Tour Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
The climb begins at Marangu Gate where registration and briefing take place. Hike through lush rainforest with abundant birds, monkeys, and exotic plants. The trail is gradual and well-maintained, making it an easy start. After 4–5 hours, reach Mandara Hut for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
Continue ascending through rainforest until the path opens into moorland. See giant heathers and the first glimpses of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The hike takes approximately 6 hours. Overnight at Horombo Hut, enjoying the beautiful panoramic views.
Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
The trail moves from moorland into the barren alpine desert, known as “The Saddle,” between Mawenzi and Kibo. The hike is moderately challenging due to higher altitude. Reach Kibo Hut (4,700m) in 5–6 hours, rest, and prepare for the summit attempt later that night.
Day 4: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak, Then Down to Horombo Hut
Summit day starts around midnight. The final ascent to Gilman’s Point is steep and challenging, but the gradual approach helps climbers adjust. After reaching Gilman’s Point, continue to Uhuru Peak for sunrise photos and achievement celebration. Descend carefully back to Kibo Hut, rest, and continue down to Horombo Hut for overnight.
Day 5: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
Descend through moorland and rainforest back to Marangu Gate. The final hike takes around 6 hours. Upon arrival, climbers receive certificates recognizing summit achievement—gold for Uhuru Peak, green for Gilman’s Point. Transfer to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha marks the end of your journey.
