8 Days Tour Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree Camp)

Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins with registration at Londorossi Gate (2,250 m) followed by a drive to the starting point of the trail. The trek starts in lush rainforest filled with birds, monkeys, and thick vegetation. The path is moist, shaded, and full of life as you ascend gradually to Mti Mkubwa (2,820 m).
This day is designed to gently introduce your body to the mountain.


Day 2: Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp

Leaving the dense forest behind, the trail leads into moorland and open heather terrain. The day offers beautiful views of volcanic towers and sweeping ridges. As you climb higher, the scenery becomes wider and more dramatic.
You arrive at Shira 1 Camp (3,500 m), located on the expansive Shira Plateau with magnificent views of Kibo Peak.


Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

This is a short but important acclimatization day. Trek across the Shira Plateau, one of the most photogenic high-altitude landscapes on Kilimanjaro. The volcanic plains stretch widely, giving panoramic views of both Shira Ridge and Kibo’s snowcapped summit.
Reach Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m) early enough for rest and high-altitude adaptation.


Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

A critical acclimatization day following “climb high, sleep low.” Ascend steadily to Lava Tower (4,600 m), where you pause for lunch and altitude training.
Afterward, descend through the Barranco Valley—rich with giant senecio plants and unique alpine vegetation—until you reach Barranco Camp (3,960 m).
This descent is vital for improving oxygen efficiency.


Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Start with the unforgettable climb up the Barranco Wall, a steep but non-technical ascent offering dramatic vistas. After reaching the top, follow gentle alpine desert trails across ridges and valleys.
Arrive at Karanga Camp (4,035 m) for another key acclimatization night, putting you in an excellent position for a successful summit attempt.


Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Today you join the main summit trail. Trek through a cold, rugged alpine desert until you reach Barafu Camp (4,640 m)—your final base before the summit. The environment becomes harsh with strong winds, freezing temperatures, and a barren landscape.
Early dinner and rest are essential as the summit push begins at midnight.


Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

At around midnight, begin your ascent to the summit under clear night skies and a trail of headlamps winding up the ridge. The climb to Stella Point (5,756 m) is challenging but incredibly rewarding as the dawn light reveals glaciers and the vast African plains.
Continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m)—the highest point in Africa.
After photos and celebration, descend to Barafu for a short rest, then continue down through varying landscapes to Mweka Camp (3,100 m).


Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Enjoy a final descent through the lush rainforest zone, filled with birdlife and exotic plants. The trail becomes soft, humid, and peaceful as you approach Mweka Gate (1,640 m).
Here, you receive your official Kilimanjaro certificates before returning to Moshi or Arusha.
