The 6 Days Machame Route—famously known as the Whiskey Route—is one of the most scenic and popular trekking routes on Mount Kilimanjaro. It offers a perfect balance between trekking challenge, acclimatization, and breathtaking landscapes. This route approaches Kilimanjaro from the south and passes through lush rainforests, moorlands, volcanic ridges, alpine deserts, and the iconic Glaciers near Uhuru Peak.
With a success rate of around 75–80% for this 6-day version, it is ideal for trekkers with good fitness levels who want a shorter yet rewarding Kilimanjaro experience.
The Machame Route begins at the lush tropical rainforest and ascends through dramatic landscapes, including Shira Plateau, Barranco Valley, the Lava Tower, and the Southern Circuit, culminating at the summit via Barafu Camp. The descent follows the Mweka Route.
This route is praised for:

The 6-day version is more intense than the 7-day version but remains one of the most chosen itineraries for experienced trekkers.
